Mobile operator Vodafone has announced a keyboard that can turn any TV into a modern “Internet portal”. The 14 x 25 cm QWERTY keyboard of the Webbox connects to the TV via an RCA connector, has a built-in Opera Mini 5.1 browser, supports SMS and e-mail, an FM tuner, a music player, and a photo gallery.
Internet access is provided by a GSM / EDGE modem. The browser provides bookmarks, news links, a dictionary, support for social networks, games and other business applications.
The main markets for such products Vodafone considers developing countries, at least, at the first stage of sales. The first country to get an online keyboard will be South Africa.
