As you may have guessed, here we are talking about dynamic contrast, not static, but, nevertheless, this is a record, since ordinary flat panel TVs can boast a contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1. And this record was set by none other than the South Korean corporation LG Electronics, which officially presented two plasma panels, 50PQ60D and 42PQ60D, in South Korea.
These models are noteworthy because they have a dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000,000: 1. But a record high contrast is not their only advantage. It turns out that they are also distinguished by an unprecedentedly high refresh rate of the screen - 600 Hz. It is worth noting that these plasma TVs have a built-in background lighting sensor, which automatically adjusts the backlight depending on the background lighting. According to LG Electronics, the 50PQ60D and 42PQ60D can save up to 60% of the energy consumed compared to previous models.
In addition to the 4 HDMI ports, the 50PQ60D and 42PQ60D still have USB ports, so external drives can be easily connected to them for further playback of audio, video and graphic content. It is also worth noting that both models received a completely new design and are distinguished by a relatively small thickness for a plasma TV case (76.8 mm).
The estimated cost of 50PQ60D and 42PQ60D is 1,460 and 1,022 US dollars, respectively. It is unclear whether they will be on sale in Europe or North America.
