LaCie launches new external RAID drive

LaCie has released a new 2big Quadra external drive with an interface that includes four ports: 3Gb / s eSATA, FireWire 800 and 400, as well as USB 2.0. The new dual-bay-drive has a capacity of up to 3TB and provides data transfer speeds up to 165Mbps, supporting 4 RAID modes for enhanced data storage security. Like the design of the existing 4Big Quadra, the 2Big design was developed by Neil Poulton.

To avoid interruptions in work, the hard drive connection slots support hot plug technology. The maximum data transfer rate of 165Mbps is achieved in RAID0 operation mode and when connected via the 3-gigabit eSATA port. The device can also work in mixed mode, when a RAID0 partition stores everyday files, and a RAID1 partition is an archive of key files. The novelty will be on sale in mid-late January for versions with a capacity of 1, 2 and 3 TB. The 1TB version costs about $ 300.
